  • Roger Saterfiel, a longtime Hayden council member and Kootenai County solid waste director, died on Saturday at age 73. He was known for leading projects like Fighting Creek Landfill + for his lifelong commitment to public service, leaving a legacy that continues to inspire the community.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Hospice of North Idaho hosts its 41st annual Wine Taste + Auction: Sapphire Ball on Feb. 7 at The Coeur d’Alene Resort, where a $50 ticket gives a chance to win a $4,995 travel package with airfare for two and five-star accommodations. CRIME NEWS

  • Amanda Norton of Rathdrum suffered a severe facial injury when bitten by a Golden Newfoundland at a friend's home on West Kamloops Drive late Saturday, Jan. 10; she underwent emergency surgery and is now recovering at home while the dog's owners plan to put it down.  Coeur d'Alene Press

  • The Coeur d’Alene Symphony Orchestra will present ‘The Nature of Us’—a family concert with familiar classical pieces—at 3 p.m. Jan. 24 at Schuler Performing Arts Center on the North Idaho College campus, featuring works by Beethoven and Dvořák for young listeners.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Lee Brice is set to perform his chart-topping country hits at the Findlay Arena on Aug. 24 (Fun Is in the Mix) during the North Idaho State Fair, which runs Aug. 21-30.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Local students showcased patriotism in a VFW-sponsored writing and audio essay contest today.   • Fifth graders from local schools read essays at North Idaho College's Schuler Performing Arts Center during the 39th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Human Rights Celebration on Thursday morning.   • After decades protecting forests and water, Kootenai Environmental Alliance is focusing on climate change by publishing local reports — partnering with the Coeur d'Alene Tribe on educational events.
