  • Terry Gurno (65) launched Unyielding Hope to offer coaching and mentoring for people facing hardships and invites community members to The Night of Hope at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Prairie Falls Golf Club.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Coeur d’Alene Elks Lodge 1254 will host a dinner, silent auction, and fundraiser this Saturday, March 14 at 6:00 p.m. at 1170 W Prairie Ave to honor law enforcement officers in Kootenai County; the event will recognize Officers of the Year and support gear purchases (donations have exceeded $25,000).  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • The Coeur d'Alene Firefighter Pipes and Drums Band is raising funds for travel to May and September memorial events (targeting $15,000 in total) to honor fallen firefighters John Morrison and Frank Harwood (with a $5,000 donation already received).  Coeur d'Alene Press

  • Sorensen Magnet School of the Arts and Humanities and the Sorensen Theater Team present 'James and the Giant Peach' (6:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday in the school gym), a free musical production performed by nearly 60 students that brings a classic tale to life.  Coeur d'Alene Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Chairman Chief Allan announced that for the fifth year the Tribe will match each $1,000 scholarship contributed by local businesses through the Chamber Education Committee’s annual program + support two graduating seniors per scholarship.   • Kootenai Environmental Alliance hosts the third annual North Idaho Green Summit on March 21 at First Presbyterian Church on Lakeside and 6th.   • Wildlife biologist Mark Vekasy said killdeer arrive in spring and can be seen in fields, parks & parking lots as they nest. They perform a broken-wing act to distract predators so locals may spot these quirky birds in open areas.  The Spokesman-Review

  • The Gonzaga Prep girls basketball seniors fell 66-61 to Woodinville in the state 4A fourth-place game at Tacoma Dome Saturday — Aylah Cornwall led with 26 points and 10 rebounds as her team battled for every possession but missed a final chance in the closing seconds.  The Spokesman-Review
