COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The North Idaho Home and Garden Show opens today at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds and runs noon to 6 today, 10 to 6 Saturday, and 10 to 4 Sunday while expecting about 4,000 visitors despite cool, rainy spring weather. More than 100 exhibitors will share home improvement ideas—tickets cost $7 at the door or $5 with a food donation, and kids 10 and under enter free.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Coeur d'Alene's first poet laureate, Jennifer Passaro, invites locals to share stories and receive custom poems at Emerge from 5 to 8 tonight—an event held during Second Friday ArtWalk. The free pop-up welcomes all tales and accepts donations to support the nonprofit art collective.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Mike Delaney, a local with strong Irish roots, will serve as grand marshal of the 20th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday at 3 p.m. on Sherman Avenue from Eighth to First Street—organizers say the event, presented in partnership with the Coeur d'Alene Downtown Association and ICCU, will feature about 25 entries including dancers, musicians and floats.  Coeur d'Alene Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 2025 Northwest Improv Fest will bring three days of unscripted comedy and interactive improv workshops from April 3—5. The event features 18 improv troupes and a new musical improv headliner at shows in Spokane, organized by Coeur d'Alene’s Levity Theatre.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Kanine Parker, a homeschooled 10th grader and self-published author from Kootenai County, released her debut novel The Helmcott Chronicles: Shadow's Edge on Monday. She will hold her first book signing on March 22 at 1 p.m. at EntertainMart 185 E. Appleway Ave. in Coeur d'Alene—marking her official step into local literature.  Coeur d'Alene Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Libraries in Coeur d'Alene are moving books the state says are harmful to minors — placing them in sections for adults only. The change has raised questions about how parents and libraries can guide children's reading choices.  The Spokesman-Review

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A bill by Rep. Bruce Skaug would allow the death penalty for adults who abuse children 12 or younger by creating a new crime called aggravated lewd conduct—this bill, which sets strict mandatory minimums including a 25-year sentence for some cases, advanced in committee for a House vote.  The Spokesman-Review
