COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Helen Campilli turned 100 on February 27th. Born in 1925 on a stormy night, she and her husband Joe ran the Train and Antique Shop for over 30 years — a spot where locals meet to talk and listen — making her a cherished part of Spirit Lake.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • The Centennial Trail is one of 20 nominees for Best Recreational Trail in USA Today's 2025 Readers' Choice Awards — its 64-mile path is enjoyed by cyclists, runners, and dog walkers — and people can vote each day until April 7 with the results set to be announced on April 16.  The Spokesman-Review
  • School districts have released menus with set meal options on Monday, Wednesday and Friday while local senior centers offer lunches and dinners by reservation—residents can call ahead to secure a spot. The programs help provide consistent meals for students and seniors in the area—transportation is available for those in need.  Coeur d'Alene Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • USFWS announced on Friday that it is extending the comment period on its proposed rule to revise grizzly bears’ listing under the Endangered Species Act, and comments will be accepted until May 16 (to give everyone a chance to share their views). Experts and legal advisors warn of growing human-caused threats (which may require stronger measures to keep the bears protected).  Coeur d'Alene Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ramsey Road will be closed to both northbound and southbound traffic between Hayden Avenue and Lacey Ave. starting Monday due to planned sewer and water line construction — motorists should expect detours with delays until the work ends on Friday, March 21st while crews complete the project through late Summer 2025.  Coeur d'Alene Press

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Marley, the new family dog, has grown attached to his family in his first two weeks and now whimpers when left behind during outdoor play. His father takes him outside sometimes (to ease his distress) but Marley remains upset (when missing the fun).  Coeur d'Alene Press
