COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Empty Bowls fundraiser is scheduled for March 27 at Kootenai County Fire and Rescue to support the Children's Weekend Backpack program that helps keep Post Falls kids fed on weekends. Program coordinator Mel Larson said the event will aid 140 elementary and 31 middle school students and support local families facing food insecurity — a key step for community care. - ➤ Today, Gary and Glenda Bakken celebrate 65 years of marriage after wed twice in 1960, first at a judge's office and later in a church. Their strong faith and family values have built a life of love that continues to inspire our community. The Spokesman-Review
- ➤ Lake City Playhouse replaced its outdated lighting and sound systems using a $30,000 grant from the Women's Gift Alliance. The upgrades — LED lights, a new control board, speakers and monitors — were installed late last summer during a run of Jekyll and Hyde the Musical. Coeur d'Alene Press

- ➤ At Lake City High School, art teacher Cynthia Chapman led 80 students in a February project to design over 40 signs that promote clubs and sports teams. The project received $1,500 from the EXCEL Foundation—funds used for art supplies and to boost student involvement. Coeur d'Alene Press
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lake Coeur d'Alene water levels increased by about three feet from Feb 23 to Feb 27 and held steady at 2,124.97 feet as of Friday morning—Avista Utilities officials say the lake, which is three feet below its summer maximum, will likely rise further this week. Coeur d'Alene Press

- ➤ Drivers on I-90 will face delays this summer as the Idaho Transportation Department starts four projects from Post Falls to Coeur d'Alene. Work will include lane closures at the Highway 41 interchange for ramp building, freeway widening until 2029, resurfacing an 8-mile stretch from Wolf Lodge to Fourth of July Pass, and bridge repairs near Cataldo — with Washington crews slowing traffic on Vantage Bridge — so motorists should check Idaho 511 for updates.
