COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Retired forest pathologist John Schwandt, chair of the Urban Forestry Committee and a leader in the Arbor Day program, invites former fourth graders to send in photos and stories of their tree plantings to mark 40 years of free seedling giveaways. The Press will publish submissions as the community gears up for its Earth Day tree bagging event and Arbor Day giveaway (April 26) (which has distributed over 88,000 seedlings since 1985).  Coeur d'Alene Press

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Coeur d’Alene Resort will host the Annual I-90 Aerospace+ Corridor Conference and Expo on May 27-28 as regional manufacturers gather to explore new opportunities in aerospace, medical, and scientific fields. The U.S. Department of Commerce Tech Hub award plus over $50 million in industry commitments will help create the American Aerospace Materials Manufacturing Center and lead to hundreds of high-paying jobs in the Inland Northwest.  Coeur d'Alene Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • North Idaho College will hold American Indian Heritage Week from March 24-28 to celebrate Native culture and history with events such as film screenings, presentations, and workshops at local venues - the public is invited to join and learn directly from tribal experts.  Coeur d'Alene Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Diana Painter from Painter Preservation will survey up to 200 downtown buildings from April through September to document architectural styles and features—officials confirm the project will not affect property rights and may set boundaries for a future historic district.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • New Census data shows that North Idaho counties—Kootenai and Bonner—are growing as Idaho added 30,500 residents last year; Kootenai County grew 1.7% with cities like Rathdrum rising 6.19% while Bonner County saw Ponderay jump 10.03%.  Coeur d'Alene Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • At a Connect4Lunch event Tuesday, Kootenai Health CEO Jamie Smith said the hospital is planning new facilities like the Prairie Medical Campus to serve as an anchor institution as Post Falls faces significant growth over the next 20 years.   • Tuesday's high school sports games in the Greater Spokane League saw Ridgeline beat Gonzaga Prep 35–5 in fastpitch—Lilley Triplett had five hits, seven RBIs and six runs—while the visiting Coeur d'Alene Vikings beat Ridgeline 15–0 in baseball with Tyler Voorhees adding two hits and four runs.  The Spokesman-Review
