Good morning, Coeur d'Alene. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 20th of March.

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Project SEARCH celebrated 15 years on Wednesday at Kootenai Health—marking a key milestone for the program run with the Coeur d'Alene School District that helps young adults with disabilities learn job skills. The program offers classroom lessons, internship rotations and work experience that prepare participants for employment.  Coeur d'Alene Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Idaho Gov. Brad Little signed a bill today that clarifies the roles of state coroners in death investigations — the law sets new autopsy standards and requires 24 hours of continuing education every other year, with its changes taking effect July 1.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Nearly halfway through the fiscal year the city saved nearly $400,000 because unfilled positions lowered payroll spending — Finance Director Katie Ebner explained that the savings reduced the need to use the general fund, though the vacancies have strained staff and affected services. The city remains challenged by recruitment in several departments, including police, IT, and legal.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Kootenai County commissioners will consider a code of conduct for county property after a disturbance involving a former county employee who was removed from the assessor’s office for disruptive behavior. The proposed ordinance will bar noncompliance with staff directions—such as loud noise, fighting, and abusive language—and may lead to trespass actions during peak times.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Rep. Jordan Redman of Coeur d’Alene said he was happy with Gov. Brad Little’s signing of HB345 on Wednesday — a bill he worked on to fix Medicaid and keep it safe for those that need it. He added that the changes are expected to boost financial stability and help taxpayers save money.  Coeur d'Alene Press
