Good morning, Coeur d'Alene. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 25th of March.
COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ At the American Legion meeting in Rathdrum, members recited the Veterans Creed—a set of words honoring their military service. The creed was created by 11 veteran organizations—introduced on Flag Day, June 14—to remind veterans to keep serving and leading in their communities. Coeur d'Alene Press
- ➤ The Meadow Ranch Homeowners Association near Fred Meyer plans to hire five goats from Leshay Goat Rentals to clear overgrown brush on a steep hill that poses a fire hazard — a solution supported by the city’s Public Works Committee and set for review by the City Council on April 1. The plan includes a fenced area, a guard dog for the goats, water supply, and on-site supervision at a cost of about $500 to $1,000. Coeur d'Alene Press
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Sam MacKinnon, a second-year North Idaho College automotive technology student, fixed a front brake rotor on a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer last Thursday so Post Falls mom Meghan Selle could drive safely for school and work. A $2,000 NIC Foundation grant covered parts that would have cost up to $1,500 elsewhere — a program that has already helped about 10 people with urgent car repairs. Coeur d'Alene Press
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A veteran who got a 100% rating (after a December 2018 claim) asked why no one told him about benefits he could have had for 50 years, and a local official said the VA never contacts veterans (or their surviving spouses) so they must ask for help on their own. Coeur d'Alene Press
- ➤ A new North Idaho Resource Directory offers veterans and their families free help to apply for VA benefits such as disability claims, pensions, and home loans. The directory provides addresses and phone numbers for offices — in Post Falls, Sandpoint, Bonners Ferry, and Wallace. Coeur d'Alene Press
