COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Spring craft fairs kick off on March 29 at Meadowbrook Community Hall, followed by events at Rathdrum Lions Club on April Fools' Day, Kellogg Senior Center on April 5, and Lake City High School on April 12. The shows feature local artisans, market booths, and vendor opportunities (with Meadowbrook fees of $15 for members and $30 for non-members) while several events offer free admission and include food vendors.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • The Coeur d'Alene Tribe honored Raymond “Ray” Conway Givens who argued their case before the Supreme Court to secure rights for the lower third of Lake Coeur d'Alene. Givens—who passed away in February—led the 2001 decision that confirmed the Tribe's ownership of about 5,200 acres.  Coeur d'Alene Press

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Coeur d'Alene Kohl’s at 545 W. Aqua remains open today while the Boise location and four other stores in Twin Falls, Nampa, Meridian and Ammon will close on Saturday — leaving Idaho with five Kohl’s stores. The store, opened 15 years ago, continues to offer discounts for credit card holders and Kohl’s Cash.  Coeur d'Alene Press

CRIME NEWS

  • In court filings for Bryan Kohberger’s homicide trial, a prosecutor said if any of his family testify, they should be kept outside the courtroom & the defense argued that his immediate family should be allowed inside to uphold his right to a public trial.  The Spokesman-Review

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Longtime teacher Allison Knoll resigned on March 19 at the Lakeland board meeting after 18 years of service — she said a toxic administrative culture and strict policies, including those that affected fundraisers and classroom materials, left her no choice. She added that she planned to leave teaching after the current school year.  Coeur d'Alene Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Idaho Senate passed House Bill 96 in a 20—11 vote on Wednesday, banning local and state governments from displaying flags except the U.S. flag, official government flags, state flags, military flags, POW/MIA flags, tribe flags, flags for special occasions, and flags of Idaho schools. The bill, which passed the House 53—17, now heads to the governor’s desk where he can sign or veto it amid concerns that it limits local expression.  The Spokesman-Review
  • The Kootenai County Veterans Treatment Court is seeking volunteer mentors with military experience to guide veterans through its recovery program—trained mentors provide personal advice and support to help participants complete the court program.  Coeur d'Alene Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • Local talent from Gonzaga, Washington State and Spokane will be on MLB rosters today as the season begins; Gonzaga alum Alek Jacob will pitch for the Padres + Washington State native Kyle Manzardo is set to play a key role for the Guardians while other local players also join their teams.
