- ➤ Habitat for Humanity of North Idaho expanded The ReStore in Hayden by remodeling a vacant office into an extra 2,500 square feet of retail space — the update will let the store sell more furniture and clothing. ReStore Manager Teresa Roberts said the improvements include three new dressing rooms — new shelving has replaced the old makeshift setups. Coeur d'Alene Press
- ➤ Members of the Lt. George Farragut Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host a rummage sale at Hayden Lake Eagles, 1520 W. Wyoming Ave from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The sale will offer housewares, furniture, collectibles and tools — proceeds will support the chapter's work in historic preservation, education and patriotism. Coeur d'Alene Press
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The EPA and wildlife experts from state, federal and tribal agencies are testing new ways to track lead in waterfowl in the Lower Coeur d’Alene River Basin. Field teams collected blood and fecal samples from swans until mid-March and are sampling wood ducks from late March through June—new methods may help guide future cleanup work—while the public is asked to report sightings of tagged or dead birds. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ At an emergency meeting on Monday, the City Council approved a $12.5 million project to install industrial wave generators in Lake Coeur d'Alene for what officials call the North Idaho Surf Experience. The generators will produce waves up to 15 feet high to attract California tourists and will begin installation next month east of Tubbs Hill (following a narrow 4 to 3 council vote). - ➤ Gov. Brad Little praised House Bill 83 on Monday, which allows local law enforcement to detain or investigate undocumented immigrants suspected of committing separate crimes+ a federal judge temporarily blocked the law's enforcement for 14 days pending a hearing. The law also requires police to notify the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and bars local bans on cooperation with federal agencies. Coeur d'Alene Press
- ➤ Governor Brad Little vetoed Senate Bill 1023—called the Idaho Medical Freedom Act—that would have banned schools, businesses and local governments from requiring vaccines, treatments or medications. He said the measure risked public health by limiting schools’ ability to send home sick students. Coeur d'Alene Press

- ➤ Former Idaho Gov. Dirk Kempthorne was diagnosed with colon cancer and began chemotherapy immediately—he urged residents to maintain regular testing and trust improved treatments. He is drawing strength from his family and looks forward to more time with his grandchildren. Coeur d'Alene Press
