Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 2nd of April.
Good morning, Coeur d'Alene.
Longtime neighbors Steve Sperber and Zoe Ann Thurman have kept an April 1 tradition with playful pranks in Coeur d’Alene (their latest joke featured a fake lottery win that amused locals).
Companions Animal Center also joined the fun with a tongue-in-cheek announcement of a dog water park project.
Empty Bowls is hosting its annual fundraiser at Templin's Hotel on the River in Post Falls from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on April 16, where local artists will showcase 370+ handcrafted bowls and offer 20 soups to help provide meals for local kids.
The Kootenai County Lemonade Day Fresh Squeezed 5K Fun Run begins at 9 a.m. April 18 in Riverstone Park (1805 Tilford Lane) to help families learn small business skills while completing a 5K walk/run and earning a limited-edition coin.
Registration costs $25 for ages 5 and older or $100 for a group of up to six.
Trees Idaho is partnering with the Arbor Day Foundation and State Farm Insurance to distribute 100 trees to Coeur d'Alene residents on May 23 — a project aimed at restoring those lost after a late-2025 windstorm — and registration opens on April 20.
Lake Coeur d’Alene stays above summer levels today because most gates on the Spokane River remain open, according to Avista’s Patrick Maher.
He said that as the gates slowly close over weeks, water will build behind the dam — so river use will be limited until summer levels are reached.
A local doctor has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help her assistant Shelley Baysinger, who has end-stage heart failure.
The fundraiser will cover travel costs so she can fulfill her dreams of visiting new places before her time runs out.
