Good morning, Coeur d'Alene. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 8th of April.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At Pinehurst Golf Course, club members and volunteers completed upgrades last year to improve the aging clubhouse and nine hole course, helping preserve its nearly 100 year history. The work included a new roof, fresh paint, updated markers, a redone sprinkler system and a shed for Kellogg High School golfers —efforts that keep this local favorite thriving.  Coeur d'Alene Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Coeur d'Alene High School planted a NASA Moon Tree Monday afternoon with science teacher Jennifer Haas and students Madi Graham and Ellie Staudacher, and the special Southwest Douglas fir from the Artemis I mission in late 2022 will be protected and marked with a plaque to honor its space journey.  Coeur d'Alene Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A federal court ruled on March 31 that the government’s Hanna Flats project violated federal law — exceeding road limits meant to protect Selkirk grizzly bears in the Panhandle National Forest. The decision supports the Alliance for Wild Rockies — requiring future projects to follow road construction limits to safeguard the threatened species.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Cool, wet weather in late March brought heavy snow to most Panhandle basins, raising snowpack to near or above normal and marking the end of winter conditions as of April 1. Reservoir storage is high in some areas (Coeur d'Alene 173%, Pend Oreille 87% and Priest Lake 129%) while other basins (Coeur d'Alene-St. Joe, Big Lost, Little Lost and Birch-Medicine Lodge-Beaver-Camas) remain below normal.  Coeur d'Alene Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kaylee Peterson, an Idaho native and working-class mother who ran for Congress in 2022 and 2024, will host an Empty Chair Town Hall at the Coeur d’Alene Public Library Sunday from 3 to 4:45 p.m.—she said the event gives residents a chance to share concerns since the current congressman has not been listening.  Coeur d'Alene Press
