  • A local cookbook brings Japanese dishes to our kitchens with recipes for Yaki Udon, Japanese Fried Rice and baked pork spring rolls. The cookbook provides clear ingredient lists and step-by-step directions so home cooks can recreate these traditional flavors at home.  The Spokesman-Review

CULTURE NEWS

  • Minors must now have a parent with them at evening screenings of A Minecraft Movie at Hayden Cinema after disruptive behavior caused damage to theaters. Owner Michael Lehosit said the new rule was put in place after copycat actions led to the removal of seven teens and refund requests—this policy will limit future disturbances.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • The Coeur d’Alene Arts Commission is asking artists to submit works for its ArtCurrents program—selected artists will receive a $1,000 stipend in the first year and may earn another if the piece is kept for a second year. The art must be designed to sell at prices between $7,000 and $30,000 with a 25% commission for the city, reflect Northwest themes in a family-friendly style, and be installed downtown starting in October, with applications due by June 30.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • The film Rainier: A Beer Odyssey will show at Garland Theater Friday at 7:30 p.m.—filmmakers will attend as the theater offers door prizes and Rainier beer specials while the documentary revisits commercials from 1974 to 1987. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Transportation Security Administration will not accept state IDs that are not REAL ID compliant at checkpoints starting May 7, the Idaho Transportation Department said. All adult air travelers must bring REAL ID or another approved document such as a passport—otherwise they may face delays and additional screening.  Coeur d'Alene Press
