COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The three-day event for the Museum of North Idaho wraps up today with kid activities and an Easter Egg hunt at 1 p.m.—the celebration began Thursday and included a ribbon-cutting on Friday as the community raised over $3 million to renovate the historic J.C. White House.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Coeur d'Alene Arbor Day asks former fourth graders to send in photos and memories of the seedlings they planted over the past 40 years. The request seeks details such as names, schools, teachers, the year received, species, and planting locations (send your submission to Devin Weeks at [email protected]).  Coeur d'Alene Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Prescribed fire operations for Idaho Panhandle National Forests began Friday and are expected to continue through the spring as weather conditions allow. The burns—used to clear overgrown vegetation and protect local communities—may lead to temporary road closures and some smoke.  Coeur d'Alene Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Coeur d'Alene City Council changed its policy in August 2022 to let nonprofit faith-based groups give invocations at meetings. The city is accepting registration until May 9 for prayer slots that will be needed for council meetings held from May 20 through Dec 16 — more volunteers must sign up to fill the schedule.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • The Idaho Department of Fish and Game has proposed rules to let anglers spear non-native fish such as northern pike, walleye and lake trout in North Idaho waters including Lake Pend Oreille and Upper Priest Lake. Public comment is accepted until April 28 plus, if approved, spearfishing seasons will start July 1.  The Spokesman-Review
