Forty years ago, fourth graders in Coeur d'Alene received free seedlings for Arbor Day, and the program started with a few hundred trees at local schools.
Today, nearly 2,000 seedlings are given to students across Kootenai County (including Douglas firs, hope crabapples, and pin oaks), while local residents share photos and stories of their trees.
