COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Community members with questions on family law, wills and power of attorney will receive free advice from local attorneys at the Law Day clinic on Thursday, May 1 at the Coeur d’Alene Public Library. Family law experts will assist from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Community and Gozzer Rooms — while will attorneys will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Community Room and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Gozzer Room.  Coeur d'Alene Press

CRIME NEWS

  • Coeur d’Alene police responded around 10 a.m. Friday to a report of a student with a water gun that looked like a firearm outside the high school—officers quickly confirmed the toy posed no threat and urged parents to talk with their children about the risks.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • The Coeur d’Alene Police Department reported 637 part 1 crimes in 2024, a 12% drop from 2023 and part of a decade-long decline of over 69% since 2014—officers now use daily crime data to guide proactive policing efforts. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Coeur d'Alene High School Principal Mike Randles will retire at the end of this school year after four years of service—district officials said a national and internal search for his replacement will begin soon. In his farewell letter, Randles called his work at the school a privilege and thanked the staff for their support.  Coeur d'Alene Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The city of Coeur d'Alene is hosting a tree seedling giveaway today at Molstead Library from noon to 2 p.m. as part of its Tree Campus USA recognition, with its Urban Forestry office working with North Idaho College on the event — the Arbor Day Organization of North Idaho will also offer a free raffle for larger trees — and there will be vendor booths and snacks.  Coeur d'Alene Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Monday, April 28, the Idaho Transportation Department will begin routine bridge maintenance across North Idaho as crews work Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The first phase is on Bunco Road over U.S. 95 in Athol, and night work will begin in early May at Northwest Boulevard and the Interstate 90 Veterans Memorial Bridge — with all work expected to finish by late fall.  Coeur d'Alene Press
