- ➤ Residents will fly kites at Broadmoore Park on Saturday, May 9 from noon to 2:30 p.m. during the free Hayden Kite Festival—registration and kite flying occur from noon to 1:30 p.m. with judging and awards to follow. Coeur d'Alene Press

- ➤ After 41 years in business (since 1973) the local music store The Long Ear will close this summer after its Government Way lease was sold, and a sale to clear inventory begins Friday as owners Terry and Deon Borchard plan to retire and spend more time with family. Coeur d'Alene Press
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Students at Lake City High School celebrated Earth Week on Thursday, April 23 by hosting informational booths and selling zinnias in compostable pots (supporting prom funds) before joining a Cougar Bay trail cleanup with the Idaho Trails Association. Coeur d'Alene Press
- ➤ At a scholarship breakfast held Wednesday morning at The Coeur d'Alene Resort, 200 students received $200K in awards. The Coeur d'Alene Tribe & Regional Chamber honored these young scholars with $1,000 scholarships and additional Strength of Character awards as part of a long-backed community initiative. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The center acceleration lane at Cloverleaf Road is closed for a month as ITD shifts access and prepares a new interchange; changes on Hauser Lake Road and Hollister Hills Road will start in the second week of May to improve turning safety until summer. Coeur d'Alene Press
- ➤ The Ponderay Planning and Zoning Commission approved Avista's special use permit to build a public complex facility with a new substation on 22 acres at East Bronx Road - U.S. 95. Avista will add a service center within 10 years and install noise-reducing walls with additional landscaping. Coeur d'Alene Press

- ➤ Alan Liere’s report details that fly fishing restrictions are in effect for the 2026 construction season from April through November at the I-90 Bridge near Cataldo (limiting river access Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.) while fall hunting applications will open Friday.
