- ➤ Up North Distillery in Post Falls launches the Special Forces Apple Brandy today with complimentary samples offered at the distillery and a portion of each sale supporting Idaho State Veterans Home (honoring veterans). Coeur d'Alene Press
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Two student art submissions from past VFW contests are on display in the 'Art Uplifts' exhibit at the Jacklin Arts and Cultural Center in Post Falls. Organizer Bob Shay tracked the artists and arranged for the pieces to move to the Post Falls American Legion after the exhibit ends on May 16 (the show reconnects the community with its art history). - ➤ Charter Academy eighth graders met key criminal justice figures on Law Day at the juvenile justice center in downtown Coeur d'Alene. Judges, public defenders and others explained their roles, including support from probation officer Haley Rose + support dog Huckleberry. Coeur d'Alene Press
- ➤ Trestle Creek Review, the student literary magazine from North Idaho College, will host a free launch party on Tuesday at noon (between Eisenwinter Soccer Field and Boswell Hall) to present its 40th edition with readings from students, employees, and the public. Coeur d'Alene Press

- ➤ Jim and Roxanne Helgeson rode their recumbent bikes in City Park on Thursday (their second ride this year) in warm sunshine. The National Weather Service said dry conditions and rising temperatures are expected, with peak warmth Monday and a stretch of sunny weather through early next week. Coeur d'Alene Press
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Medical students from UW are leading a first aid tent today at Bloomsday, the 50th anniversary race, to treat runners' cuts and bruises. The tent (at the corner of Government Way and River Ridge Boulevard near Riverside Memorial Park) will offer care as the race unfolds. The Spokesman-Review

- ➤ Sherman Ave and 2nd St were closed Friday morning as construction crews poured concrete for the new Sherman Tower's upper level. A final pour is scheduled for May 15 (with temporary closures expected) while other pours should not affect traffic. Coeur d'Alene Press

- ➤ Lauren Matthew of West Valley will compete in state track events this spring, aiming to lead her team to a relay title while defending her position as a top sprinter after breaking school records.
