CULTURE NEWS

  • Flett Middle School is hosting the third annual Pauline Flett Powwow today, a free event run by students to honor native culture and late Spokane tribal elder Pauline Flett. The school gym at 5020 West Wellesley Ave will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with repeating sessions and grand entries at noon and 5 p.m.—as well as contests including hand drum, red dress special, and a golden age dance.  The Spokesman-Review

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Science wizard David Hagerman wowed Bryan Elementary students on Thursday by using gravity—electricity and chemical reactions in interactive experiments that made science fun. He engaged third graders during demos and recalled his work on America's Got Talent and with NASA.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • North Idaho College deans Vicki Isakson and Tami Haft, who both graduated from Lewis-Clark State College and earned master’s degrees from Gonzaga, were named the 2025 LCSC Alumni of the Year — the first time co-recipients have been honored with the award.  Coeur d'Alene Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kootenai County and Lakes Highway District officials met on Thursday and agreed to move forward with a one-year lease for the Bayview dock at a rate of $1—an approach aimed at securing an Idaho Department of Lands permit for boating season. County commissioner Leslie Duncan and district leaders proposed an MOU that would allow the county to temporarily maintain the dock and related properties until a new dock is installed.  Coeur d'Alene Press

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Silverwood Theme Park in Athol will open today as it kicks off its weekend with updated rides and new shows. The 37-year-old park upgraded its Tremors roller coaster with new trains and will hire about 2,000 extra staff—adding shuttle service for workers from Spokane Valley.  Coeur d'Alene Press
