- ➤ On Friday morning near Fernan Lake, Chapter AG P.E.O. members arranged 2,500 small pots and 220 hanging baskets of bright geraniums to raise funds for local scholarships and international projects that support women's education—this annual sale has raised funds for two decades. - ➤ The downtown farmers market returns every Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. through September—vendors will sell fresh flowers, eggs, honey, pastries, art and handmade crafts while Sorensen Magnet School of the Arts hosts its annual Fine Arts Performance. Coeur d'Alene Press
- ➤ Chivon Bailey has led Lake City Center’s Home Delivered Meals and congregate meal programs for 18 months—she focuses on serving healthy, comforting dishes to seniors. - ➤ The 26th annual Cancer and Community Charities fashion show took place at the Coeur d'Alene Resort on Thursday night, drawing over 300 guests to view models in outfits from area boutiques. - ➤ The Coeur d’Alene Rotary Club gave $20,000 to the EXCEL Foundation on Friday, which then paid it forward by awarding $25,000 grants—one to Lakes Middle School and one to Skyway Elementary School—to improve learning and play areas. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A dry, warm April left northern Idaho basins receiving only 60 to 75% of normal precipitation and streamflow in the Coeur d’Alene-St. Joe Basin at 66 to 82% of normal, which has raised water supply concerns. The May Natural Resources Conservation Service forecast drought conditions will persist for the next three months + 47% of Idaho lands are in drought, up from 40% last month. Coeur d'Alene Press

- ➤ Early voting for the May 20 election is open until Friday, May 16 at 5:00 p.m. with polls cast from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Election Day; Kootenai County residents will also vote on local matters including a +$16.4 million bond+ for fire department upgrades and absentee ballots must be received by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. - ➤ University of Idaho Coeur d’Alene computer science student Leif Huender used long short-term memory models—an AI tool—to study two decades of weather data and predict Valley Fever outbreaks.
