On Tuesday, Coeur d'Alene Resort employees and 50 volunteers planted about 15,000 red geraniums in less than two hours at the Resort, Boardwalk Marina, Hagadone Corp headquarters, Resort Golf Course, and Hagadone Event Center—continuing a longstanding tradition that benefits the city.
More than 400 Franklin Elementary School students and volunteer parents are beautifying the drab structure in Lower Lincoln Park with a mural of local flora and fauna—designed by Spokane artist Corinne Ren and supported by a $10,000 grant and local donations.
North Idaho Veterans Stand Down will hold a resource, health and benefits fair for area veterans and their families this Saturday, May 17th at the Jacklin Building in the Kootenai County Fairgrounds from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.—attendees must show a military ID, VA ID or DD214 document and will receive breakfast, lunch and coffee.
On May 9, a hunter in the Panhandle region shot a young female grizzly bear when he mistook it for a black bear—he self-reported and is fully cooperating with Idaho Fish and Game.
Roger Mark Mangum, 44, was sentenced on May 8 to a unified 10-year prison term with parole eligibility after four years for grand theft, domestic battery and intimidation of a witness—charges that came after he stole high-dollar golf clubs in May 2024 and struck and choked his ex-girlfriend in January 2025 before calling her to ask her not to talk to police.
Three former mayors—Jim Hammond, Sandi Bloem and Steve Judy—spoke Tuesday at a Coeur d’Alene Regional Chamber event held at The Coeur d’Alene Resort to share lessons learned, leadership challenges and advice on building community unity.
