- ➤ Panhandle Bike Ranch, a 170-acre mountain bike park, will open this Friday during Memorial Day weekend in the forested hills west of Lake Pend Oreille. - ➤ On April 16, the 3rd Avenue Marketplace raised over $17,000 at Templin's Hotel on the River to nearly double last year’s Empty Bowls fundraiser for its Weekend Backpack Program, which fills meal gaps on Fridays for Post Falls students — organizers seek donations to help feed more than 250 kids. - ➤ Warren Bakes, 86, earned an honorary doctorate on Saturday, May 16, at University of Idaho’s commencement in Moscow, recognizing his 60 years in public and higher education. His lifetime service helped shape education + support students in our community. Coeur d'Alene Press
- ➤ Local youth David, a homeschooled sixth grader, is a quarterfinalist in the 2026 Jr. Ranger Competition hosted by wildlife biologist Jeff Corwin. Voting closes at 7:00 p.m. today as he holds eighth place + the winner will receive $20,000 and a feature in Ranger Rick magazine. Coeur d'Alene Press
- ➤ Students from Priest River Lamanna Jr./Sr. High School drove a 1923 Model T on Monday as part of their industrial maintenance class project. They learned to operate the antique car with guidance from the Inland Empire Model T Club (helping restore the vehicle) while building electrical and mechanical skills. Coeur d'Alene Press

- ➤ Brent Regan, the longtime chairman of the KCRCC, lost his GOP precinct race Tuesday night by 14 votes — Rick Montandon won with 51.3% of the vote. The county will elect a new chairman on May 28. The Spokesman-Review
- ➤ The BLM has implemented updated fee schedules at Killarney Lake Campground, Windy Bay Boater Park, Mica Bay Boater Park, and Huckleberry Campground to support maintenance and improvements. Day-use fees start at $5 while overnight fees have doubled at several sites, with exemptions for pass holders (visitor guidelines apply). Coeur d'Alene Press
- ➤ Avista is changing its summer power operations in Idaho and Washington because of wildfire risk. The utility may use Public Safety Power Shutoffs and manual inspections on lines — customers should update contact info and prepare emergency supplies. Coeur d'Alene Press
