When he was 15 in November 1958, Keith Moser encountered famed outdoors writer Jack O’Connor while hunting near Clarkston Heights—an unusual moment that spurred a lasting interest in the outdoors.

Decades later, after his son urged him to donate his single-shot Model 37, the simple Winchester now rests in a glass case at the Jack O’Connor Hunting Heritage and Education Center—honoring the legendary writer's legacy.

The Museum at the Brig at Farragut State Park reopened today after a $600,000 renovation—featuring new exhibits such as Women of WWII and Solitary Confinement and updated naval displays.

Jim Stephens, a World War II veteran turning 100 who trained at Farragut, previewed the museum with his family.
