Yesterday, flags fluttered and taps played during Memorial Day ceremonies at Memorial Gardens and Veterans Plaza at McEuen Park where locals honored fallen service members.
Retired Command Sgt. Maj. Jason Legler and keynote speaker Kenny Moore spoke on the sacrifice made for freedom and urged everyone to remember those who served.
Registration is open for the Family Promise of North Idaho Golf Classic, which will take place on June 27 at the Links Golf Course at 10623 N.
Chase Road—teams pay $600 for lunch, golf, a catered dinner and prizes to benefit a program that supports families facing homelessness.
Under EPA direction, the Coeur d’Alene Trust has started cleanup work in the basin to remove mine waste and improve water quality—projects in the Upper Basin are set to finish in fall while cleanups at the Douglas Complex and Gray’s Meadow in the Lower Basin are scheduled for completion this fall.
A new North Idaho resource directory lists veteran service offices in several counties, including the Idaho Division of Veterans Services in Post Falls, Bonner County Veteran Services in Sandpoint, Boundary County’s office in Bonners Ferry, Kootenai County’s office in Post Falls, and Shoshone County’s office in Wallace. The free services help veterans and their families with disability claims, pensions, VA loans, and other benefits (Benewah County residents should contact the state office since they do not have a county officer).
Veterans can get free hearing aids through the VA by registering at any local VA Medical Center’s health enrollment section — they must bring a copy of their DD214, driver’s license, and, if available, health insurance to complete the registration and schedule an audiology evaluation.
