  • Capy Hour Café opened on April 4 and offers visitors 30- to 45-minute sessions with baby capybaras Miguel and Mario at Big Red’s Barn on N. Government Way in Coeur d'Alene. Guests can also enjoy Brazilian-themed drinks & a vibrant rainforest setting.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Starting June 1, the Shoshone News-Press will accept community nominations for its annual Best Of program to honor Silver Valley’s top local businesses — residents can visit ShoshoneNews-Press.com to submit their picks.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Coeur d’Alene Place is hosting a community yard sale on Saturday, May 30 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with about 60 houses participating (last year’s event drew a large crowd).  Coeur d'Alene Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Coeur d’Alene-based artist Duncan Clark Menzies will open his exhibit, Catharsis: The Bedsheet Chronicles, on June 5 at Terrain Gallery — 628 N. Monroe St. in Spokane — featuring an 18-minute documentary, A Sheet from Naked, shown at 5:20 p.m., 6:20 p.m., and 7:20 p.m. daily through June 28.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Local audiences experienced Back to the Future: The Musical, a playful stage show that uses creative stagecraft— from dynamic songs to vibrant costumes— to bring a classic time-travel tale to life.  The Spokesman-Review

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Safety Net will present at Teen Resource Connect at the Coeur d'Alene Public Library on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., where teens aging out of foster care will learn how to file an application for resources and hear from 20 other nonprofits.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy wrapped its school year as the top high school in town and in Idaho. Ranking No. 29 among national charter schools and serving about 220 students (highlighting strong community support), the school continues its tradition of rigorous college-prep academics.  Coeur d'Alene Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kootenai Health appointed Kim Ransier, a former hospice care executive, and Tag Jacklin, a local real estate developer, to its board on May 5. Each will serve a three-year term ending in May 2029 with an option for another term.  The Spokesman-Review

SPORTS NEWS

  • Blake Sturgis of the Idaho Vandals qualified for NCAA nationals in javelin on Wednesday at the NCAA West First Round at the University of Arkansas with a 236 ft 7 in throw, marking first Vandal in over a decade to do so; finals are set for June 10 in Eugene.  The Spokesman-Review
  • At Eisenhower HS on Thursday, state track championship events continue until Saturday as local athletes shine; Emmitt Warren VIII won the 2B boys 1600m, Hannah Appleford led the shot put, and Kyra Brantner took first in the 1B long jump + others posted strong results.  The Spokesman-Review
