  • Adelina Mae will bring her 'Girls Just Wanna Have Guns' event to Coeur d'Alene on June 28—women will participate in three hours of dry fire and hands-on training at Fernan Rod and Gun Club to learn safe gun handling for self-defense.   • More than 50 people marched from St. Luke’s Episcopal Church to Independence Point on Thursday night—chanting songs celebrating Juneteenth and unity.   • Panelists met at the Human Rights Education Institute in downtown Coeur d'Alene on Thursday to discuss Juneteenth—marking the end of slavery—and its significance as a day for all Americans, while local leaders noted ongoing efforts to address hate in the community.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre will open its season on June 27 with Hello, Dolly! returning with lead Krista Kubicek as Dolly — the show will run until July 6 at the Schuler Performing Arts Center in Boswell Hall at North Idaho College.  Coeur d'Alene Press

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gem State Water has submitted a proposal to the Idaho Public Utilities Commission to lower monthly water allowances and raise the per-1,000-gallon rate—customers may face increases of at least 53% to as high as 193% with the changes set to take effect on Aug. 1. Coeur d'Alene residents should also note that the city is considering its own water rate hikes to support an $84.3 million capital improvement plan.  Coeur d'Alene Press
