COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Adults 21 and older will gather at Post Falls Brewfest from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 28 at the American Legion (1138 E Poleline Ave.) as the Post Falls Lions Club hosts craft beer and sausage tastings to support local community needs.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Debbie Healey shared her yard’s new chainsaw sculpture featuring a howling wolf and owls with neighbors on Boyd Avenue after A.J. Hartman finished it last Thursday. Hartman—a chainsaw carver with 10 years of experience—said he drew inspiration from nature and his work with Healey to create the 13-foot piece.  Coeur d'Alene Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Saturday, about one hundred people gathered at Peperzak Middle School to honor 101-year-old Holocaust survivor Carla Peperzak by dedicating a horse chestnut sapling grown from the tree seen by Anne Frank — marking it as the 18th U.S. school to receive a sapling through the Anne Frank Center USA project.  The Spokesman-Review

  • The Silver Express Shuttle will run without costing taxpayers thanks to a federal grant covering service until 2027—commissioners now review whether to manage it in-house or hire outside help.  Coeur d'Alene Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • Shaun Endsley of Hayden became the first local man to cross the finish line at Saturday’s Ironman 70.3 in Coeur d’Alene, finishing in 4 hours, 51 minutes and 55 seconds as about 1,100 athletes completed a 70.3-mile race—combining a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride and a 13.1-mile run. Suzanne Endsley finished as the top local female at 5 hours, 35 minutes and 55 seconds and the couple plans to join three more races later this year.  Coeur d'Alene Press
