- ➤ On Wednesday, the Innovia Foundation announced that it awarded $1,250,414 to 113 Inland Northwest groups to support education, youth development, health, arts, culture and economic opportunity in local communities. The program focused on nonprofits with strong youth engagement based on recommendations from volunteer advisory committees — a core part of its 51-year tradition. Coeur d'Alene Press
- ➤ The eighth annual Brewfest, organized by the Coeur d'Alene Downtown Association, will take place from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. Saturday at McEuen Park and will feature 30 taps, live music, non-alcoholic beer, seltzers, and games for children. VIP ticket holders will receive a commemorative pint glass, six pours of beer in five ounce servings, exclusive lounge access, Liquid Death water, and expedited check-in — tickets cost $35 online and $40 at the gate. - ➤ On Thursday morning, a quiet procession lined Sherman Avenue as vehicles with family and first responders traveled to the Hagadone Event Center—honoring late battalion chief John Morrison. Nearly 1,000 firefighters joined a 90-minute celebration that recalled his 28-year career, and a separate service for colleague Frank Harwood will be held today at the same venue. Coeur d'Alene Press

- ➤ After a gunman fatally shot Battalion Chiefs John Morrison and Frank Hartwood and injured Engineer David Tysdal on Canfield Mountain, Kootenai County Fire Chief Justin Capaul organized over 70 firefighters from 16 Idaho departments to cover shifts at local stations from 6:30 a.m. Thursday until 8 a.m. Saturday so crews can mourn their loss—Morrison was honored Thursday morning while Hartwood will be honored today. - ➤ Huckleberry Havoc, a popular production by Sixth Street Melodrama and Theater, runs through Aug. 10 with evening shows at 7 p.m. Thursday to Saturday and a matinee at 2 p.m. on Sundays — the performance, now featuring local high schoolers, leads into the Wallace Huckleberry Festival starting Aug. 15. - ➤ Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre will open its production of 'Anastasia: The Musical' on July 18 at Schuler Performing Arts Center on the North Idaho College campus and it will run through July 27. The show will feature a special Princess Performance on July 21—sponsored by Rita Case—and free tickets for first responders while raffle proceeds support families of the Canfield Mountain shooting victims. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ During a special meeting on Thursday in Hayden, city and county officials debated law enforcement funding—City Councilor Ed DePriest and Sheriff Bob Norris clashed before shaking hands. City staff have set a tentative law enforcement budget of about $1.1 million for fiscal year 2026 to cover eight patrol deputies, a detective, a lieutenant and animal control services.
