CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Kellogg man, Raymond Black, was convicted of a felony for illegally killing and wasting a bull moose on November 6 near Wolf Lodge Saddle in Kootenai County—after a tip to the Citizens Against Poaching hotline led officers to evidence at his home, Black pleaded guilty and received fines, six months in jail, three years of probation, and a lifetime ban on hunting and trapping. - ➤ Theater on the Verge is running its regional premiere of 'Torch Song' at Hamilton Studio until Aug. 2. The revised play follows Arnold Beckoff, a drag performer seeking love in 1970s and 1980s New York, while actors deliver honest emotion and humor—making it a memorable experience. - ➤ Shasta Groene and Gregg Olsen will appear at The Well-Read Moose in Coeur d’Alene from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8 for a book signing of their new collaboration, Out of the Woods—Groene will share her survival story from a 2005 kidnapping while Olsen brings his well-known storytelling style to the event. - ➤ Working near water in the Coeur d’Alene Basin often needs permits—like a Section 404 permit with a 401 water quality certification—to help protect wetlands, streams and lakes while ensuring safe project work. Coeur d'Alene Press
- ➤ Officials with Idaho Fish and Game announced that the state’s wolf population was estimated at 1,235 as of late May—a drop of nearly 100 from last year. - ➤ During a workshop on Monday, finance director and treasurer Katie Ebner told City Council that the proposed budget calls for a 3% property tax hike + 1% from forgone taxes, raising costs by about $8.15 a month for a $1 million home and roughly $14.89 a month for a $1.8 million commercial property.
