Nearly 1,500 residents gathered at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds on Saturday, July 18 for the largest Day of Hope.

Organized by 208 Ministries and community partners, the event featured a community barbecue, live broadcasts and neighborly acts (a resident lending a tool to help a neighbor) that showed local support.

North Idaho CASA recorded a drop in assigned cases (239 in 2020 to 136 in 2025), and director Kristin Linville Ludwig stressed that lower numbers do not mean less abuse.

The agency will continue to work with volunteers across northern counties to support affected children.

Clarks Cleaners at Division and 2nd Avenues will close by the end of this week (after over 40 years of service) due to declining demand and higher costs; the Hamilton Street location will stay open for drop-offs and pickups, and employee Jamie Shartle will work part time next week.
