Joe Deacon moved to Kootenai and joined American Legion Post 14 to build strong bonds with fellow veterans; he said the group helped fill a void in his life.
The group—formed in 1919—now seeks more active members and plans to expand support services such as ride-to-doctor programs and mental health check-ins.
Veteran Robert Martin has been named grand marshal of the Hayden Days parade and will lead the procession along Government Way from Hayden Avenue to Dakota Avenue on Saturday at 10 a.m. He said he was surprised by the appointment as he rides in a convertible with Mayor Alan Davis while the event honors Hayden’s 70th birthday and local heroes — including a flyover by No Limits Aviation and floats from local businesses.
A large mural is being painted on the side of the Tomlinson Sotheby’s International Realty office on Third Street and Sherman Avenue in downtown Coeur d'Alene.
Kids helped paint on Wednesday and artist Gabrielle Lewis said the community can visit— the artwork shows 'Welcome to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho' with local plants and animals and will be finished in a few weeks.
Soul Proprietor will perform two full sets at the free Browne’s Addition Summer Concert Series in Coeur d’Alene Park on Thursday — the show will feature primary vocalist Patrice Thompson-Rose and guest singer Robert Vaughn as they mix funk, soul, R&B, blues and classic Motown.
Revived in 2009 after nearly disbanding in 2006, the band continues to honor late founder Ken Martello’s vision with energetic live performances.
