  • On Wednesday, brothers Cayd and Zane Winters jumped from the rocky Tubbs Hill shoreline into the cool 72-degree water of Lake Coeur d’Alene to escape a heat wave that pushed temperatures to 97 degrees—city officials noted the water system is pumping nearly 26 million gallons per day to meet increased demand. The forecast calls for 90s today with a cooling trend over the next five to seven days.  Coeur d'Alene Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Over 300 pilgrims left Immaculate Conception in Post Falls on July 18 to walk the 50-mile Cataldo Pilgrimage—which marked 25 years of this spiritual journey as 5 priests provided guidance through confession and prayer. The three-day event, which had 500 participants camping along parts of the route, ended at the historic Cataldo Mission with a Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.  Coeur d'Alene Press

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • On Wednesday, the Design Review Commission approved the 304 Lofts, a 10-unit apartment building on a .13-acre lot at Third Street and Wallace Avenue, and King Chinook will supply nine parking spots in a lower-level garage while paying $10,000 for each of the four extra spots—moving the project forward after years of neglect.  Coeur d'Alene Press

  • Alan Liere's report explains that fly fishing on the Spokane River and bass fishing on the North Fork and St. Joe Rivers show varied success while lakes like Blue Lake deliver quality trout fishing. The report also notes that Idaho sage grouse tags (5,030) and sandhill crane tags (715) go on sale Friday at 9 a.m. and that a drawing for nonresident deer and elk tags for 2026 will soon be detailed.  The Spokesman-Review
