- ➤ In early May, the King David Men’s Boxing class at the OPEX CDA gym for boys aged nine to eleven wrapped up a free, 10-week course with intense sparring rounds and lessons on discipline and faith. Organized by Coeur d’Alene Catholic Jason Chavez and backed by local partners, the program built character—about 90% of the participants completed the class with renewed strength for life’s challenges. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A hiring event is set for Wednesday from noon to 3 p.m. at the Coeur d'Alene Public Library at 702 E. Front Ave—employers including All Ways Caring HomeCare, Buck Knives, the Coeur d’Alene School District, Hilton Grand Vacations, Inland Chess Club and North Idaho Dental Group will offer jobs for sales representatives, caregivers, certified nursing assistants and night janitorial staff. - ➤ Drivers in Coeur d'Alene should expect nighttime lane closures, detours and shifting traffic patterns throughout August as the ITD works on maintenance projects that include resurfacing, crack sealing and paving a section of State Highway 3 near Clarkia to run through August 14. Crews work from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.—drivers, especially commercial and logging trucks, may face delays. Coeur d'Alene Press

- ➤ Central Valley High School varsity golfer Jayden Bommer now owns the earliest known custom set of clubs used by Ben Hogan; a collector verified the clubs after finding them nearly discarded at a garage sale four years ago. Hogan had given the set to a young fan after a hole-in-one at the 1947 Esmeralda Open+ Bommer values the clubs as a reminder of overcoming hardships. The Spokesman-Review
- ➤ Coeur d’Alene sisters Talie and Bethany Hawkins placed second overall in their age groups at the ScotDance USA National Championships in Santa Clara, Calif., after years of focused training and practice. They will continue preparing for next year’s World Highland Dancing Championships at the Cowal Highland Games in Dunoon, Scotland (the sisters began dancing at 7 and 4 and practiced six days a week).
