  • A 21-year-old driver from Priest River died at the scene on Sunday after his Ford F-250 crossed into the southbound lane and hit a Ford F-350 towing a trailer south of Spirit Lake; a 62-year-old Florida driver in the F-350 was hospitalized and alcohol may have been a factor, state police said.  The Spokesman-Review

CRIME NEWS

  • A severely injured man was found bloodied on a front porch near Hayden Lake on Monday afternoon—law enforcement including a K9 unit, SWAT, and Coeur d’Alene officers responded and pronounced him dead while detectives investigate the homicide.  The Spokesman-Review

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Bureau of Land Management in the Coeur d'Alene District will hold a timber sale offering 5.6 million board feet from 372 acres near Pinehurst to thin trees for wildfire protection—bids will be accepted until Sept. 8 at the Coeur d'Alene District Office, 3232 W. Nursery Road.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • BLM stopped using West Fork Pine Creek Road for commercial logging and mining and made an easement agreement with Avery on Langlois Road, which allowed the Averys to secure a four-month seasonal hunting closure that blocks most public access to prime hunting land. Critics say Joe Avery misled hunters by claiming the land is private while violating Idaho law and expect BLM to revise its travel plan soon—raising concerns about public rights.  Coeur d'Alene Press
