Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 13th of August.
Good morning, Coeur d'Alene.
🏘️ Community
Shared Harvest Community Garden volunteers deliver produce to Father Bill's Kitchen but risk losing their space, as private owners may liquidate it without funds to buy.
The group holds Dinner Under the Stars on Aug. 22 (with live music and auction) to raise support, though they still need significant help.
Hat Trick Brewing is hosting Pig Out in the Park in its parking lot from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday as an alternative to the past annual festival; the event will offer a special menu of meats, sandwiches, sides, and ice cream—donating part of its proceeds to Teen and Kid Closet.
Drivers are urged to slow down as students return to class this week; Idaho’s Highway Safety advises caution in school zones, around buses, and near crossing guards to keep kids safe (Highway Safety Manager Josephine Middleton stressed following the law).
🎭 Culture
Nearly 50 hand-crafted antique wooden boats will be on display this weekend at Hagadone Boardwalk Marina during the Coeur d’Alene Antique and Classic Boat Festival, which is free to attend.
The event also offers a children's boat building activity from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and runs until 2 p.m. Sunday.
The Post Falls Museum is hosting Through Her Lens today from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. to celebrate Margaret Evarts' legacy with a photo exhibit, appetizers, and wine.
Tickets cost $20 (proceeds benefit the museum and historical society).
🏥 Health
Kootenai Health nurse Alicia Glover was honored as Mended Hearts Chapter 322 Nurse of the Year for her 47-page handbook that helps heart patients and caregivers keep care instructions straight— the guide has eased confusion and improved outcomes since it was introduced last November.
