COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Last Friday, members of Cancer and Community Charities held an Appreciation Lunch at the Best Western Plus Coeur d'Alene Inn and gave $115K to 29 nonprofits—grant funds that will pay for dictionaries for local third graders and a new working dog for Idaho Disaster Dogs. The grant marks the first time the canine unit received funds from 3Cs as part of their ongoing support for rescue operations.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Lisa Martin is the executive director of the Hayden Senior Center and has spent her life caring for others. The center now operates at the Shrine Club Event Center as it launches a campaign to build its own home, and her team will hold fundraisers like Bingo and Brews today and on Nov. 8—along with the Miles for Smiles Car Cruise on Sept. 6—to support seniors.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • On August 26, free food will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Venture High School (1619 N. Ninth St.) during the Second Harvest Mobile Market drive-through event that will serve up to 250 families with both fresh and non-perishable items and require no appointment or paperwork.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Wesleigh Haas, 10, is excited for the North Idaho State Fair—she has attended every fair since she was a baby and will soon celebrate her birthday while showing dairy goats and rabbits.  Coeur d'Alene Press

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Residents east of E Dufort Road, on Talache Road and its side streets — along with those on Raven, Crosswhite and Little Blacktail Roads and east of 2268 Sunset Road — are on GO status for the Sunset Fire and must leave immediately.  Coeur d'Alene Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rusty Taylor became the new superintendent of Lakeland School District last month and moved to Rathdrum to be closer to family—he has met with all trustees and is reviewing budget cuts and facility needs to support students. Taylor will spend his first year assessing the district before making changes to improve finances and community engagement.  The Spokesman-Review

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Little signed an executive order on Friday asking state agencies—except public schools—to cut spending by 3% by June 30 to help balance the budget amid lower tax revenues. The order directs agencies to review operations, cut travel, and eliminate long-vacant positions by the end of fiscal 2026.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Coeur d'Alene resident Kiki Miller—a longtime community activist—announced her reelection bid for City Council today and said she will focus on affordable housing, quality education and job creation to support community needs.  Coeur d'Alene Press
