  • Fred Meyer on Kathleen Avenue confirmed it will remain open even though Kroger will close 60 stores nationwide over the next 18 months—store director Cory Hallett said the location is not affected. Other Pacific Northwest stores have announced closures recently and more decisions are expected soon.  Coeur d'Alene Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Hayden City Council approved a $42.8 million budget for fiscal 2026 without raising property taxes after a 3—1 vote Tuesday night and accepted proposed cuts from Councilor Ed DePriest to address rising law enforcement costs—Councilor Sandy White warned the cuts could weaken the city’s bargaining power with the county.  Coeur d'Alene Press

  • Eastern Washington grad Efton Chism III earned a spot on the New England Patriots 53 player roster after a strong summer that saw him record six catches for 71 yards and a touchdown in a win over Minnesota—former Shadle Park quarterback Brett Rypien was cut when NFL teams trimmed their rosters.  The Spokesman-Review
