- ➤ Companions Animal Center will host its annual Tails at Twilight fundraiser on Sept. 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. at 10275 N. Atlas Road with dinner, music, and auctions. About 250 tickets have been sold and only a few $125 tickets remain before sales close at noon Friday—helping support care for abandoned and abused animals. Coeur d'Alene Press
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Coeur d’Alene Fire Department reported that fire engineer Dave Tysdal is still recovering from his June 29 shooting on Canfield Mountain—his gunshot wound, clavicle, lungs and arm are improving even though he still cannot move his legs and he has been receiving treatment in a specialty rehab facility since July 15. - ➤ Mead teachers and staff voted nearly 97% to authorize a strike if a new contract is not reached by midnight Sunday. Union and district representatives meet again Friday — a strike could delay school’s start on Tuesday. The Spokesman-Review
- ➤ A Museum of North Idaho volunteer taught elementary students in the History Summer Camp about steamships on Lake Coeur d'Alene using a photo of the sternwheeler Boneta, which nearly sank when its aft struck the bottom of the St. Joe River on July 17. The Boneta was built in 1904 and launched on Oct. 23 from Peter W. Johnson’s boat works — more details will be shared in part 2 next month. Coeur d'Alene Press

- ➤ Mountain Home filmmaker Andy Anderson is filming his documentary 'We the Public' on public lands across the West including Idaho’s Bruneau Canyon—he plans to raise $500,000 to complete the project for a 2026 release amid ongoing threats to these lands. Coeur d'Alene Press

- ➤ Cougar fans learned that Martin Stadium is dry because officials have not approved serving alcohol for Saturday's game against the Vandals—so fans may choose to sneak in alcohol or leave at halftime. The Spokesman-Review
