COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, around 100 volunteers gathered at a new ElderHelp site off East Dodd Road in Hayden to cut, stack, and transport over 60 cords of firewood for seniors and families who use wood heat in Kootenai County — part of the National Day of Service and Remembrance in honor of 9/11 victims — and ElderHelp will distribute about 250 cords of wood. ECONOMY NEWS

  • Construction is booming downtown as developers build the 15-story Sherman Tower, the 18-story Thomas George and the 6-story Marriott hotel—projects that will boost local jobs and revenue while aiming to preserve Coeur d’Alene’s unique character.  Coeur d'Alene Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Literacy Project of North Idaho will host its fourth annual Walk, Run, Read benefit on Sept. 20 at Coeur d'Alene City Park—races include a 10K at 8 a.m.—a 5K and 1-mile at 8:30 a.m.—and a Kids Dash at 9:15 a.m. Families can also join a book swap and sale, games, activities, and vendor booths at this community event.  Coeur d'Alene Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • At Honeysuckle Beach, Geoff Harvey from the Hayden Lake Watershed Association unveiled a new information kiosk that shows safe boating practices, county rules, invasive species details, a detailed bathymetric map, and tributes to local leaders—Gerry House, Gloria Lund, and lake manager Todd Walker. The kiosk also includes a lifejacket loaner station and brochures to help prevent quagga mussels from invading Hayden Lake.  Coeur d'Alene Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Coeur d'Alene City Attorney Randy Adams said that tentative deals were reached with the Police Officer Association and the Lake City Employees Association—police get a one-year contract with a 3.5% wage adjustment and promotion increases while LCEA receives a two-year extension with similar changes. The agreements, affecting about 120 police members and 126 LCEA workers, will be reviewed by City Council at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the public library community room.  Coeur d'Alene Press

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • On Friday, 800 cubic yards of concrete were poured to build the second floor of Sherman Tower, a project a week ahead of schedule that will include 139 guest rooms and new dining areas. The downtown area also sees progress at The Thomas George condos—an 18-story building with 60 luxury units and planned commercial spaces expected to be occupiable by the end of the month.  Coeur d'Alene Press

    Join us for a joyful evening of generosity and community at our 3rd Annual Boundless Love Banquet, featuring a delicious dinner, silent auction, raffle baskets, and stories of lives changed through the work of Love In the Name of Christ (Love INC).
