ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Yellow-rumped warblers, called butterbutts for their bright yellow rump (their clear mark), are staying in the region into late autumn while many birds join the fall migration. They change their diet to berries using high bile salt levels to survive the cold months, which helps them live farther north than other warblers. The Spokesman-Review

- ➤ The Coeur d’Alene Tribe bought back nearly 30,000 acres of timber land south of Coeur d’Alene from Stimson Lumber Company—public access is now closed as the Tribe reviews its management plan to honor its homeland promise. Coeur d'Alene Press
- ➤ Legislators discussed housing, workforce gaps, taxes and AI at Breakfast with the Legislators at Best Western Plus Coeur d'Alene Inn on Wednesday — they urged residents to contact them directly about their needs. Coeur d'Alene Press
- ➤ Today in Post Falls, city staff began chlorinating the water system to keep chlorine levels above 0.25 ppm for 30 days while remaining below the EPA limit of 4.0 ppm—officials will test and adjust the dose to reduce taste and odor issues. Coeur d'Alene Press

- ➤ Kootenai Health will host a Teddy Bear Clinic where children bring their stuffed animals for ultrasounds, casting and to learn ways to stop germs at the Kootenai Health Resource Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday; families will enjoy hands-on health care practice and meet local heroes (firefighters and police) to ease fears about doctor visits.
