- ➤ On Saturday, more than 1,000 people gathered along US-95 in Coeur d'Alene for the 'No Kings' protest and sang patriotic songs to call for respect for the rule of law — saying that the nation belongs to its people. 85-year-old Marilyn Otto from Post Falls attended with friends to stand against tyranny. - ➤ The Museum of North Idaho held its second annual Harvest Festival on Saturday where families enjoyed fall fun with scenic hayrides through downtown. Organizers added hayride tours this year — giving children and adults a new way to see the town. Coeur d'Alene Press
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Conservation groups, state officials, and tribal representatives filed a federal court request on October 18th to force changes at eight dams on the Columbia and Snake rivers so that endangered salmon and steelhead receive more water flow. Utility groups warned the changes could hurt the power grid—settlement talks are expected as dam operations may change in March 2026. Coeur d'Alene Press
- ➤ The marbled orbweaver, also known as the pumpkin orbweaver, builds large circular webs up to 2 feet wide in local gardens and parks as its bright orange abdomen becomes more visible before Halloween—experts say the spider is harmless and helps control insect pests. Its presence is a natural boost to local ecosystems that keeps pest levels down. The Spokesman-Review
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Veterans Treatment Court celebrated its first graduates when Joshua Lowery, who has been sober for two years, addressed a packed courtroom on Tuesday. The program was launched last year to help veterans with service-related issues—Lowery said he plans to join as a mentor to support others in regaining their purpose. Coeur d'Alene Press
- ➤ After its first summer on I-90, the Idaho Transportation Department reported that its $100,000 Incident Response Vehicle—donated by District 3—removed over 100 hazards, assisted with 40 flat tires and 35 crashes, and helped with several medical emergencies including diabetic episodes and two births. The department is now outfitting a second unit in Boise to serve as backup and provide continued free support for stranded motorists. Coeur d'Alene Press
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Rotary clubs have raised over $2 million in District 5080 to help immunize children against polio and continue the global push to keep the disease at bay. They worked with the Gates Foundation—who matches donations 2:1—to secure vaccines and prevent future cases. Coeur d'Alene Press
