- ➤ The Press has issued a final call for submissions to honor veterans in a special Veterans Day publication, asking locals to send photos, service details, and stories (including any awards) by Friday for the Nov. 11 edition. Coeur d'Alene Press
- ➤ Bonners Ferry resident Rick Maggi—returning after a five-year break—grew three giant pumpkins weighing about 800, 1,250 and 1,482.5 pounds; his pumpkins won prizes of $500 at an event in Kent and $1,000 in Gervais. He worked with 12-year-old neighbor Paislee Perkins and now displays the pumpkins at Boundary County Tractor and Safeway along with a 19-foot, 6-inch sunflower. Coeur d'Alene Press
- ➤ Today, veterans gathered at Legends Park Assisted Living for their monthly free breakfast & shared reflections on military service from World War II, Vietnam, and Middle East conflicts. The event at 1820 N. Legends Parkway ran from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and brought together local veterans and their families. Coeur d'Alene Press

- ➤ The Lake City High School Student Council celebrated October recognitions by naming Vice Principal Brandi Johnson as Staff of the Month and Teacher Christopher Ward as Teacher of the Month—both honored for their support during school events. The council also recognized junior Archer James as Athlete of the Month and junior Emerson Hayes as T-Wolf of the Month for their standout performance at homecoming. Coeur d'Alene Press

- ➤ Pamper Me Pink will host a night of self-care + breast cancer screening education at Rumour Boutique in Coeur d'Alene from 5 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 29, and visitors can schedule walk-up mammograms + enter a raffle at 5648 North Government Way. Coeur d'Alene Press
- ➤ Dr. Michalina Kupsik at Kootenai Health is working to improve breast cancer early detection in North Idaho after data showed only 63% of eligible women had mammograms and Idaho ranked 48th nationally based on 2022 figures. She said early detection is key in better care—Kootenai Health has offered about 17,000 screenings this year with roughly 150 positive results. Coeur d'Alene Press

- ➤ Don Franklin, an 80 year old Bloomsday veteran, lost his rare first finisher T shirt when his brother wore and tossed it and now plans to run the course one more time for his 50th event in May. He said he will keep running until God takes him home—he stays active with gym workouts after past injuries. The Spokesman-Review
