Jayden Murphy, a student at North Idaho College studying to become a teacher, was awarded a $5,000 scholarship from the Department of Idaho Military Order of the Purple Heart through her father—Sgt. Daniel Porter, a combat veteran who served in Iraq.
She can earn another $5,000 if she keeps strong grades and the school was named a Purple Heart College in 2023.
