- ➤ Bob Martin, the commander of VFW Post 889 in Coeur d’Alene, served from 1963 to 1983 and earned three Purple Hearts over four tours in Vietnam—he later ran a security business in Chicago and said his military discipline gave him the drive to succeed. Coeur d'Alene Press

- ➤ North Idaho is under a La Niña pattern that could bring a wetter and cooler winter—meteorologist Jeremy Wolf said there is a 55% chance it will last through winter and boost snowfall in Coeur d'Alene compared to the usual 51 inches.
