North Idaho will honor its veterans with events set from Nov.
6 through Nov. 14, including a Veterans Stand Down in Osburn, a luncheon in Worley, a performance at Hayden Meadows Elementary, and a bowling tournament in Coeur d’Alene. Local groups will also offer free dental care, estate planning sessions, and ceremonies at schools and parks — all events are open to the public.
Coeur d'Alene police and firefighters visited the home of Nick and Brianna Shriner on Halloween after a neighbor asked for help when their sons Brooks and Graham missed out on trick-or-treating due to a stomach bug.
The first responders arrived quickly — the boys got a close look at a fire truck and a patrol car, received candy, and shared their thanks.
Tuesday's school board elections in Coeur d'Alene, Post Falls, Lakeland, Kootenai and Plummer-Worley saw Coeur d'Alene trustee candidate Rasmussen win decisively with 2,394 votes to Michael Burns’ 1,518, while incumbents in other districts retained their seats; Rasmussen, who served as interim trustee since July, said he felt *honored* to return and support local students and teachers.
Retired lawyer Linn Sampson, who has run Bloomsday since 1977, finished the 2025 race in 3 hours 9 minutes while dealing with foot nerve pain — he said he will run the 50th race in May even if he faces more challenges.
