COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Kootenai Health Foundation team will deliver handcrafted wreaths to Mountain West Bank branches on November 10 — the wreaths will be on display until November 26. After that, they will be moved to the Festival of Trees event at The Coeur d’Alene Resort where raffle tickets will be sold to support the foundation’s work.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • After Election Day, the Chamber urged neighbors to support local officials by choosing local purchases and nominating leaders—efforts that build a stronger community—and to volunteer for local projects. The 113th Annual Awards Celebration and Holiday Auction will be held on Dec. 3 at Hagadone Event Center to honor those serving the town.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • The Coeur d'Alene American Legion is working to install formal bronze engraved military markers at Mica Peak Cemetery to honor Civil War and World War I soldiers who have long had only simple markers. The markers cost about $1,000 each and will be placed in the spring—when full military honors are planned—to give these veterans proper recognition.  Coeur d'Alene Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Hayden Cinema has posted its weekly movie schedule for Nov. 7-13 with prices at $6.50 for matinees, $8.50 for evening shows, and $5 on Tuesdays. The schedule lists films such as Christmas Ring, Predator: Badlands, Grand Prix of Europe, and others along with specific showtimes that vary by day—information that helps plan a visit to the theater.  Coeur d'Alene Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Benjamin Milam from Kootenai Clinic said kratom, which is sold as tablets, capsules, extract or tea, carries risks such as liver damage, seizures and withdrawal symptoms—concerns that have alarmed local health officials and law enforcement. State Sen. Carl Bjerke noted he will consider further action if federal guidelines prompt regulation of the substance.  Coeur d'Alene Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • Veteran runner Tom Leonard nearly missed past Bloomsday races when a heavy water valve injured his foot, yet he raced with help from a coworker and continued finishing every race since 1977. The 80-year-old completed his 49th race in 1:52 and plans to join the 50th race in May—showing his lasting determination.  The Spokesman-Review
