The Osburn Police Department will hold its annual Shop With A Cop program on Dec 13 and 14 to give underprivileged children in Shoshone County about $100 each to shop for gifts at Walmart.
The event is funded through donations—support is secured from Silver Valley Fire Rescue and other agencies as Osburn police work to fill gaps from uncertain involvement by the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office.
The Coeur d'Alene Public Library will host free family events the first weekend of December.
At 11 a.m. Dec. 6, there will be a Mudgy, Millie and Santa Sing-Along featuring Susan Nipp reading her book while on Dec. 7 the Library will cohost a contra dance with lessons by Penn Fix and Debbie Mykkanen and live fiddle music by Crooked Kilt — all open to singles, couples and families.
Hundreds attended a free Thanksgiving feast at The Altar Church in Coeur d'Alene, marking five years of providing meals for people in need and building community support.
Volunteers prepared a full menu (turkey, ham, stuffing, sides, and pies) and delivered extra meals to those who could not attend.
Tonight, downtown festivities kick off with the Lighting Ceremony Parade at 5 p.m. and a 10-minute fireworks show will light the sky over Lake Coeur d'Alene as part of the Resort’s 38th annual Holiday Light Show —producer Richard Knowlton said the display will only delay if high wind or lightning creates a safety issue— ensuring a festive celebration for the community.
The city of Hayden reminds residents to clear roadways as snow season begins by removing vehicles when 3 or more inches fall—vehicles blocking snow plows will be removed—and by taking personal items like basketball hoops off the streets.
