COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Press Christmas for All helped Derek overcome tough challenges; he is now over two years sober, is working toward a Peer Support Specialist certification, and will enroll in school with tuition support from Idaho Launch + a laptop donation.   • Local families are embracing creative holiday giving, including the Old Schoolhouse Family Gift Shop in Latah, open Dec. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with donations accepted until Dec. 17. Other ideas include volunteer gift wrapping, serving hot cocoa, and caroling for assisted living residents—spreading lasting community cheer.  The Spokesman-Review

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rogers High School’s Woodshop Club crafted wooden cars, reindeer and toolboxes for the Christmas Bureau opening later this week, with teacher Bryan Rice saying volunteer Jerry Schmidt sparked the project and plans are set to improve it next year + students honed practical skills.  The Spokesman-Review

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Hayden Lake Watershed Improvement District invites residents to review plans to restore the lake's north arm and end harmful algal blooms. SWCA and Eutrophix will share details from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17 at the Public Library Community Room *funded by a Drinking Water Grant*.  Coeur d'Alene Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • Life Care Center of Post Falls was named one of the 2026 Best Nursing Homes by U.S.News and World Report after a yearlong review of nearly 15,000 facilities. The nursing home at 460 N. Garden Plaza Court is recognized for its commitment to quality care since 1976.  Coeur d'Alene Press

  • The Vandals won a tight game on Saturday as Kolton Mitchell scored 22 points to help secure an 84 to 81 victory over South Dakota State (a welcome boost for local fans).  The Spokesman-Review
