- ➤ Hayden Canyon Charter students worked with the Sleep in Heavenly Peace Spokane Chapter on Dec. 10 to preassemble 10 twin beds for local kids in need; the beds will be delivered mid-January fully furnished with mattresses, sheets and comforters. Coeur d'Alene Press
- ➤ Press Christmas for All assisted Michelle, a local senior facing medical and housing challenges after surgery, by awarding her essential car repairs from Lake City Auto Care; the help ensures she can attend doctor appointments and work toward permanent housing. Coeur d'Alene Press

- ➤ A High Wind Warning remains in effect for Kootenai County until 4 p.m. today as Avista warns that saturated soil + strong southwest winds of 25 to 45 mph with gusts up to 60 mph may bring down trees and power lines. Coeur d'Alene Press
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bayview residents raised concerns at a Waterways Advisory Committee meeting Thursday — ahead of the Jan. 1 termination of the Bayview docks lease. County officials and the Lakes Highway District are working on temporary and long-term plans to maintain the docks and keep the emergency ramp open. Coeur d'Alene Press
- ➤ Kootenai County Fire and Rescue voted to end its hazmat services for Region One due to funding concerns and reduced call volume, and will phase out the program over the next 90 days — neighboring teams will assist in the transition. Coeur d'Alene Press
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ North Idaho Advanced Care Hospital in Post Falls opened a rehab unit offering 17 beds and a 3,700 sqft therapy space with a pool plus outdoor courtyard for stroke and serious injuries. It will serve over 300 patients annually by providing 15 hours of weekly therapy during a two-week stay. The Spokesman-Review
- ➤ Vitalant is urging local residents to donate blood as the region needs 200 units daily for critical hospital care. Upcoming drives include Dec. 22 at Kootenai Health—2003 Kootenai Health Way, Dec. 27 at Bonner General—520 N. Third Ave., and Dec. 30 at the Kootenai County Justice Building in Coeur d’Alene.
