Good morning, Coeur d'Alene. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 15th of April.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Coeur d’Alene Public Library will host its annual Earth Day celebration this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event themed Our Power, Our Planet will feature educational booths, a family story time, and live performances near McEuen Park—all planned to inspire sustainable energy ideas.  Coeur d'Alene Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Museum of North Idaho will open its new home at the historic JC White House at 11 a.m. Friday (a building built in 1903 and moved from near City Park) where museum staff, board members and locals will mark the opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring new exhibits and pop-up history talks. Years of restoration and community support led to relocating the museum from its old spot, and plans for an expansion of its exhibition and archival space will follow.  Coeur d'Alene Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Post Falls High School students will perform Pride and Prejudice tomorrow at 7 p.m. in a Trojan Theatre Department production directed by Jared McDougall—featuring 25 cast members with period costuming and Regency dancing; additional shows are set for April 17, 18, 21 and 22.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Mikey Chase-Braden is a senior at Post Falls High School and a K-Tech student who won first place in both regional and state construction technology competitions and will now compete nationally in Atlanta. His former teacher Gretchen Bell said his success shows that skilled trades help students overcome early challenges — he is preparing for his first flight — and build a promising future.  Coeur d'Alene Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents in the Bunker Hill Superfund Site must get an ICP permit from Panhandle Health District before digging if 1 cubic yard of soil is disturbed or a barrier is compromised—this free permit provides sample data and guidelines for safe work. Inquiries can be made online, by phone at 208 783 0707 or in person at 35 Wildcat Way in Kellogg.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Idaho judges will see a 10% pay boost starting July 1 after Gov. Brad Little signed House Bill 322 last month—raising salaries for magistrate, district, appellate and Supreme Court judges to attract more qualified legal talent.  Coeur d'Alene Press
  • Today, the Idaho Legislature passed several bills that limit local governments’ powers by banning mask and medical mandates, loosening child care standards, and blocking stricter local rules on public camping and EV charging — measures taking effect immediately or on July 1. State lawmakers say the changes reflect a long trend in state preemption — a move they claim will ensure uniform policies statewide, though local officials argue it weakens local control.  Coeur d'Alene Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • The 21st annual Leadman Triathlon will take place this Saturday, April 19 at Silver Mountain Gondola Village starting at 11 a.m. The race features skiing, mountain biking, and running with weather‐challenged conditions and supports local organizations with over $200,000 in donations since 2005—an event that marks the end of ski season and the start of a new mountain biking era.  Coeur d'Alene Press
